Hello world!
September 19, 2009
The other day I found myself talking to a man who was searching for happiness and meaning in his life. He enjoyed some level of success in his professional life, but was not even happy about that. Throughout our conversation he consistently referred to what someone else did that caused x in his life, and what outside event occurred that caused x in his life.
I asked him if he was satisfied with where he was and if there was anything he could think of that caused him to want to just jump out of bed in the morning, if there was anything that would cause him to shout “WoooHoooo!”?
He thought for a moment, looked me straight in the eye and said – “You know, I can’t think of anything that I’m genuinely happy with.”
Sadly, this person is more the norm than the exception.
Most of us find it easy to assign accountability for our life outcomes to someone else. After all – I would never do anything that would cause me pain or unhappiness.
One of the biggest steps in creating your life is accepting the responsibility for it. I can attest that when you do amazing things begin to happen.
